I felt welcomed on arrival and found getting around the course was nice and easy. There were good caddies and the changing rooms and Pro shop were both superb. The course has an excellent putting green and equally good practice range which is all surrounded by great scenery and the atmosphere around the course is brilliant for golf. The tees were good as well as the fairways and greens which were also very good. There is great course bunkering and course yardage marking throughout the course and I rated the cleanliness of the course as 9 out of 10. I had a timely tee off and kept a good speed of play during the round. The 19th hole is excellent and I think the layout and design of the course presents a real challenge for any golfers playing the course. Despite the glowing reports read in various sources, the course is a complete dump. No fairway watering has reduced the fairways to continuous bunkers. This place has no right to be called a golf course. It is a disgrace I awarded 10 stars to tee off and timing as we were the only people playing the course that day! More fool us. The club is easily accessible from all the beach resorts that surround Durban,and within easy reach of many Game reserves. From the start it was easy to book a round and on arrival the staff were friendly and helpful. To me the putting green was excellent and I rated it 8 out of 10, our game also started on time. The course yardage marking,Fairways,Tees and bunkers all scored 9 out of 10 with the greens scoring 8. Simola is a resort course accessed via a small turn-off just as you enter Knysna. This small road winds up the valley getting ever higher. Ignore the first Simola gate which leads to their residential developments. The main entrance is at the top of the hill. In the car park you will be greeted and your clubs taken from you. The course is very new and does require time to mature, but it is very much worth the visit with the Jack Nicolas design being excellent as usual. The 2nd tee shot into the valley is memorable. We got a green fee discount through our local B&B. This is another resort course, but what an experience! Located just outside Mossel Bay and 5 mins off the N2 motorway where nothing prepares you as you enter the car park for what you are about to see. The visitors car park is a 10 min buggy ride from the clubhouse so make sure you take everything with you. There are some seriously steep cart paths and its terribly exciting and that's even before you get to the 1st tee! The clubhouse is perched out on a point, almost in the Indian Ocean. If you struggle to get cleanly off the tee (at least 100m) then be sure to bring a bucket of balls with you. But you won't mind as this is a true golfing experience and you'd kick yourself if you didn't play it. Some of the best (and frightening) par-3's I've ever played. There are plenty of short 330 yard'ish holes, but don't be fooled as they play 430 yards with the elevations involved. Out on the course everyone - even the players - the atmosphere is remarkable! A great challenge and even if you do not play well you will love the experience! The view from the pub is exquisite and you feel like you are on top of the world!
